Ask us anythingWhat is Makin' Tracks?
Makin' Tracks is an adult-only tour and private charter business taking small groups from Melbourne to some of Victoria's best food, wine, wildlife, nature and entertainment experiences.
Where do your tours depart from?
Our scheduled tours depart from Spring Street in central Melbourne. Your booking confirmation will provide the exact meeting point and departure instructions.
Are your tours adults only?
Yes. Makin' Tracks is strictly 18+ only. There are no children or under-18s on our scheduled tours, private tours or charters.
How do I book?
Scheduled tours can be booked online through our booking system. Choose your tour, select your date and number of passengers, and follow the booking instructions. For private tours and charters, contact us directly.
How much do your tours cost?
Scheduled tours start from $170 per person. Private tours and charters are individually priced based on group size, itinerary, duration and requirements.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking as early as possible, particularly for weekends and peak tourist periods.
Can I book for just one person?
Absolutely. Scheduled tours are designed for individual bookings, couples and smaller groups. You'll join other adults looking for a great day out.
What's included in the tour price?
Each tour page clearly explains its inclusions. Scheduled tours generally include return transport from Melbourne CBD, a driver/host and the experiences specifically listed on the tour page.
Is lunch included?
Lunch costs are not generally included. We've chosen to keep lunch flexible because everyone eats differently. We'll take you to the venue and you can choose what you'd like and purchase it directly.
Are wine tastings included?
Yes, wine tastings are included where stated on the individual tour page. Some venues may offer additional tastings or purchases at your own expense.
What size groups do you take?
We specialise in small-group experiences, so you're not spending your day on a huge coach with dozens of people. Private charters can accommodate larger adult groups depending on the specific booking.
Can I bring alcohol on the bus?
For scheduled tours, please don't bring your own alcohol onto the bus unless we've specifically advised that it's permitted for that particular tour. You'll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy drinks at the venues we visit.
Can I bring food on the bus?
Light snacks and water are fine. Please avoid anything messy or strongly scented.
Is the bus wheelchair accessible?
Accessibility depends on the vehicle and booking. If you have accessibility requirements, please contact us before booking so we can discuss what's possible.
Can I leave shopping or purchases on the bus?
We recommend taking your purchases with you when leaving the bus. Makin' Tracks can't accept responsibility for personal belongings left behind.
What happens if it rains?
Our tours operate in most weather conditions. If severe weather affects an activity or venue, we'll make alternative arrangements where possible. We recommend bringing a jacket and checking the forecast before you head out.
What happens during summer fire season?
We monitor emergency service advice and may not run tours on days of exceptionally high fire risk. We'll give you as much notice as possible if a tour needs to be cancelled or rescheduled.
Will the itinerary always be exactly as shown?
We aim to follow the advertised itinerary, but occasionally venues, weather, traffic or other circumstances may require changes. Where we need to make a change, we'll aim to provide an experience of a similar standard.
Can I choose which winery we visit?
Scheduled tours use carefully selected venues and may vary depending on availability. If there's somewhere specific you'd like to visit, a private or bespoke tour is the better option.
Are the tours suitable for overseas visitors?
Absolutely. Our tours make it easy for visitors to experience regional Victoria without needing to hire a car. Our Yarra Valley Wine & Australian Wildlife tour is particularly suited to international visitors wanting to experience Australian wildlife alongside Victoria's famous wine region.
Do I need a car?
No. Meet us in Melbourne CBD, jump on the bus and we'll take care of the driving.
What if I don't know much about Australian wine?
That's perfectly fine. You don't need to be a wine expert to enjoy our tours. We're here to introduce you to the region, the producers and the experiences, not give you a wine exam!
Do you cater for dietary requirements?
Yes. Please let us know about any dietary requirements when you book so we can help you choose an appropriate lunch option.
Do I have to spit the wine out?
Well... that's entirely up to you! Just remember, we're driving. Our tastings are about discovering great Yarra Valley wines, not trying to set a personal drinking record.
Is Healesville Sanctuary entry included?
Yes. Your Makin' Tracks tour includes entry to Healesville Sanctuary, so you can simply arrive and enjoy your day.
How long do we spend at the Sanctuary?
We allow approximately three hours at Healesville Sanctuary, giving you plenty of time to explore the trails, see Australia's incredible wildlife and catch some of the daily keeper talks and presentations.
Can I book a koala encounter?
Yes. Koala Experiences can be booked as an optional extra when available. They are subject to availability and an additional fee, and can be selected at booking.
Is lunch included?
Lunch isn't included in your tour price. After your time at the Sanctuary, we'll take you to one of our selected Yarra Valley wineries for a tasting and lunch. The tasting is included in your tour price; lunch is purchased directly at the venue on the day.
What time do we leave and return to Melbourne?
The tour departs from Spring Street, central Melbourne at 8:45am. We expect to arrive back in Melbourne at approximately 6:00pm, depending on traffic and the timing of the day's stops.
Is Healesville Sanctuary accessible for people with mobility needs?
Healesville Sanctuary has accessible paths, toilets and facilities, and accessible parking is available close to the entrance. However, the Sanctuary is a large outdoor site with some sloping and uneven paths, so guests with mobility concerns should consider their individual requirements and contact us before booking if they have specific needs.
